Tell a Tale..

Who doesn't love stories, and you will love them all the more when your little one spins them :-)

Little Readers' Nook, a read aloud program in India, with themed book kits & story sessions specially designed for babies and toddlers, came up with 'Tell a Tale' contest. The idea was for little ones to choose from a given set of characters, props & settings, and spin a tale around them!

When I heard about it initially, I didn't give it much thought as I didn't think my just 3 year old pudding would be able to create stories on her own. How wrong she proved me, and we are soo sooo proud of her!

Here are the stories that she created over a period of a month..

Story 1
Circus story

One day I wanted to go to the circus. So I took mummy and daddy in the bus and went to the circus. The clown was doing funny things. The lion was doing roarrr. There was a farmer who drove a tractor. Then we came home to sleep because it was dark.

Story 2

One day the popcorn spilled, and somebody was was drinking juice. I was eating an ice cream and somebody was eating popcorn. Then kitty came and licked my tummy. And chi-chi bird is singing in the sky.

Story 3

One day my birthday was started. So I took my mummy and daddy to my birthday. And all my friends were there. Mr. Cheese was there. There were beautiful butterflies. The teacher was in school and birthday was started. So I blow the candles on the cake and everyone sings happy birthday.

Story 4

One day I wanted to go to the circus. So I take Vedu to the circus. There was an aeroplane in the sky. And then there was a butterfly flying. And I was so tired that I fell asleep.

Story 5
Snowman, Babbu, Ice-cream, Butterfly & Flower

One day a butterfly came to my house. So I pick some flowers and give it to mummy. And mumma said 'Thank you'. 'You are welcome' said babbu. Then it was Christmas time and there was a snowman that babbu built. And she was eating ice-cream. Then babbu played with the snowman. Then I came back to my house.

Story 6

One day I was at the beach. Then I was playing with the beach ball. Then suddenly I heard a noise. It was kitty cat. Oh! I said.
The farm was closed. So I sleep first, and the farm was open again. I went to the farm with mummy and daddy. Vedu came with Suju maasi and maasa. There was a cow & a pig & chickens & horses & birds in the sky. The end.

Story 7
Froggy story

One day I was eating popcorn. Then there was a froggy and a family. And it was trying to go to school. There were lots of toys in school. And there was a present. And there was a teacher. And they played and played and played.

Story 8

One day I wanted to go to the circus. So I took mummy & daddy to the circus. And I took my dog to the circus. And there was a cow outside. And there was an aeroplane flying outside. The cow got hurt because it bumped to the aeroplane. The circus was started when I was sitting and I was eating some funny popcorn. And then I go home and sleep because it was bedtime. And the story is finished.

Story 9

One day it was Christmas and my pet duck was at home. Then a cat came and saw the duck. The duck looked around and saw the cat. They played together. Then one day we were driving in the car and we saw the duck on the road. So we had to do beep-beep.

Aren't they the cutest little stories! :-)

And we were mighty thrilled when our pudding got a very special mention from LRN!!!

"A special mention to our youngest contestant, 3 year old Anika and her mom Sirisha Gunta-Pai as well. Unfortunately, we received no other entry in the 2-4 age group, so there couldn't be a contest in that category. Nevertheless, we loved ALL your imaginative stories Anika, keep imagining and spinning stories!"

Oh! oh! oh! and she loved the entire experience soo very much, that she now creates stories using her own props!

Story created out of story cubes

One day a kitty cat came to visit. And I was reading a book to the kitty cat. Then mummy & daddy went outside. So I took the keys out of the box and went with the kitty cat in mummy's car. Because mummy & daddy went in daddy's car. We all then went to the toy shop!

Story created with animals in the sand pit

One day there were lots of animals, and they wanted to go on top of the hill. The bear was not coming. So the mummy dog was calling the bear. Then the tiger came and said 'What happened mummy dog?' So mummy dog said 'The bear is not coming'. So the tiger got a rope and pulled the bear onto the hill. Then the baby lamb was not coming. And daddy dog said 'Come on, baby lamb'. Then a new tiger came and said to daddy dog 'What happened?'. 'The baby lamb is not coming, and is watching TV', said daddy dog. Then the new tiger got a rope and pulled the baby lamb out of the TV. Then they all slept. In the morning, there were lots and lots of new animals to play with.

I'm so glad that I stumbled upon this opportunity with LRN, through which I have been able to nurture the creativity in my child!

I would highly recommend trying this activity with children in the 3+ age group. You sure will be amazed at the wonderful tales they are able to spin.

Happy story telling everyone! :-)
